Southeast Queensland, Australia, is currently in the middle of a heat wave. It’s humid, the sweat is dripping from every pore and even the air conditioners are struggling to provide a much needed cool that all locals are craving. Temperatures like these have not been seen in Maroochydore since 2008.
Our storefront, although by the beach in Alexandra Headland, is still hot and obviously with wedding’s constantly on the brain, our first thought…’IMAGINE GETTING MARRIED IN THIS HEAT!’
So with that in mind we’ve come up with a few handy hints for Bride’s who might just be planning a summer wedding and are looking for some cool down idea’s (hint: bridesmaids required).
1 – STAY HYDRATED
The last thing you want to do is pass out at the alter. You’ll be wearing a hopefully comfortable, but still fitted gown and you’ll be tired. Make sure your bridesmaids and yourself are constantly drinking water and keeping the sugar levels up. It would also be a nice gesture to have water bottles available at the ceremony for guests.
2 – HAVE SUFFICIENT COOLING
If you are breaking out in a sweat then you can be rest assured your guests and the groom are doing so also (He’s is a suit remember!). Just like you would have arranged a back up wet weather plan, perhaps it would be wise to have a heatwave plan also. Plan an air-conditioned reception venue, or if choosing to be outside opt to have some sort of fan system in the park or by the beachfront.
3 – HAVE MAKEUP FAIRIES ON STANDBY
Makeup just does not like heat. You don’t want to have that shining, melted and trashy look in any of your photo’s so make sure your bridesmaids are prepared with all the makeup goodies you’ll need. Think translucent powders, fresh lippy and waterproof mascara. If it’s a super steamy day, perhaps opt for a lighter makeup look as heavy layers tend to turn tragic in intense humidity.
4 – ICEY TREATS ALL ROUND
Who doesn’t love Zooper Doopers? Get some fun fresh icy poles ready for your guests and watch the excitement trickle across the room. Cold drinks, bottle spritzers for cooling down. Lime, cucumber and fresh summer fruits will have your family and friends somewhat forgetting about the heat…at least while they’re managing that brain freeze.
So there you have it, a few little tricks to help you and your guests make it through a steamy hot wedding day.
